“The Eucharist is the heart and the summit of the Church’s life, for in it Christ associates his Church and all her members with his sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving offered once for all on the cross to his Father; by this sacrifice he pours out the graces of salvation on his Body which is the Church.” (CCC 1407)Ordinary ministers of communion are the priests and deacons ordained by the church. Often it is not practical for one priest to serve the needs of all celebrants in a faithful community, especially in locations where Mass is said many times a day. For this reason, we have extraordinary ministers of communion, who are members of the lay community. These faithful servants assist ordinary ministers of communion and are truly called to be extraordinary not only in their service, but also in their preparation to serve.
