On Monday, October 6th, 2014, the Auburn+Catholic Student Organization, with support from Auburn+Catholic Campus Ministry and St. Michael's Catholic Church, will hold its 3rd Annual Eucharistic Procession. All are welcome to join us as we celebrate and give witness to Christ's presence in the Eucharist.
WHERE WILL THE EUCHARISTIC PROCESSION TAKE PLACE? Langdon Hall (see
map)
152 South College Street
Auburn University, Alabama 36849
WHAT TIME WILL THE EUCHARISTIC PROCESSION BEGIN? The faithful are expected to be inside
Langdon Hall at 7:00 PM. After a brief welcome and an explanation of the route to be taken, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed. Then when all is ready, the procession will begin.
**NOTE: Candles will
NOT be lit until after exiting the building. No open flames are allowed inside the building.**
WHAT ROUTE WILL THE PROCESSION FOLLOW? (see
map)
After exiting Langdon Hall, the procession will:
proceed west on Magnolia Avenue, turn left and proceed north on Donahue Avenue,
turn left onto Heisman Drive and proceed to the Student Center Green Space,
proceed toward and turn left onto Roosevelt Concourse,
turn left onto and proceed north on Mell Street,
proceed to Cater Lawn,
proceed east on Thach avenue toward Samford Park, and finally
return to the inside of Langdon Hall
WHAT WILL TAKE PLACE ALONG THE PROCESSION ROUTE? (see
map)
There are four (4) planned “altar” stops along the procession route:
Lowder Business Building (corner of W. Magnolia Avenue & Donahue Drive; see map)
Outside of Jordan-Hare Stadium (corner of South Donahue Drive & Heisman Drive; see map)
Upon arrival at each stop, the priest will place the monstrance on an altar set up for the occasion. The faithful will be led in hymns and prayers. Each stop should last for 3-5 minutes.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE PROCESSION RETURNS TO LANGDON HALL? The priest will place the monstrance on the altar. After the faithful have filed into the building, we will sing hymns appropriate for the occasion, such as “Tantum Ergo.” This will be followed by the Benediction and the recitation of the Divine Praises. The Blessed Sacrament is then placed reverently in a Tabernacle. After some closing remarks, the assembly will sing a final hymn.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? Because the procession is of a prayerful nature and we will be walking with our Eucharistic King, respectable clothing is strongly encouraged. Therefore, please wear clothing appropriate for Sunday Mass. Consider the following:
Weather – check the forecast and plan accordingly for jackets, sweaters, layers, etc.
Shoes – wear comfortable shoes appropriate for walking in a variety of conditions (up hill, down hill, concrete, grassy areas, etc.)
Modesty – be comfortable yet reverent
